Hi all, I have been reading on EC for a while and finally decided to join. I just wrote a coming out letter to my parents (using the super helpful letters in the advice section for reference). I am 17, beginning my senior year next week, and ready to be honest with the 2 most important people in my life. Dear Mom and Dad, I would like to share something about myself with you because I love you very much and I believe that it is time that you should know. I am sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but I am, have always been, and will always be attracted to women. I have known this since the 5th grade but, up until this year, I have suppressed and denyed feelings towards girls. Recently, I realized that I am neither sexually nor physically attracted towards men. I am a lesbian, and my sexuality is, by no means, your our anyone else’s fault. I completely believe that I was born this way and my only choice is whether to be open and honest about my feelings or to continue to deny and hide them. I am still the same nerdy, artistic, and goat-loving daughter that you have known for the past seventeen years. I love both of you no matter what and that you have always loved and supported me. Feel free to ask me any questions. This letter is only the beginning of a conversation… Love you always, Emily
That's a great letter. A few typos that you might want to correct, but other than that it gets the point across well and it's great that you leave the end opening to talk about it. Good luck with giving them this and coming out!
Welcome to EC! Like Gerry said, there are some typos, but the letter looks really good. Best of luck with giving it to them and let us know how it goes!
It went just fine. Left it on the computer, they read it and told me that they love and support me no matter what.
