Really sad story :(

Someone I know just came out to their parents who are really religious, and they decided to stop paying for his college education and told him not to come home again. So now he is scrambling around trying to find scholarships, which he shouldn't have too much trouble with because he is really brilliant, but it is still a really tough situation. I just don't understand how parents could raise a child for 19 years and then just suddenly abandon him. How could religion be worth the price of your child?

Yes, I don't understand that at all! Tell your friend to look here for a scholarship. They give scholarships to gay students just like him who have been cut off from unaccepting parents. Did you tell your friend about this website? It might help him to talk about it.

    Ohh, that's sad. :icon_sad:
I don't understand how parents can do that to their own children. Even if it's against their religion I'm pretty sure God wouldn't want them disowning their own children.

You should tell him about the Point Foundation Scholarship:

Hope I helped and that everything works out for him!

That's terrible. I don't understand how people can denounce homosexuality as 'unnatural' and then do something so unnatural as abandoning their child.

tell your friend i'm really sorry for him and i hope his parents realize that something that techinically can't be proven shouldn't take precedence over their child.

(i don't want to offend any religious people with this statement)

  10. Im so sorry that happened to him. No one deserves that.

Give my love and support to your friend. Tell him to come here and see us. We can at least support him and show him that he isn't alone.

Some parents don't deserve to have kids :icon_sad:

They just use the reason that he is 19 to abandon him, but that is not the right thing to do, like he has killing somebody or something

I hope your friend find enough supports and scholarships, and those parents should think back bout what they have done.

Ive been thinking is he gonna hate his parents?

That's upsetting. Definitely direct him to the point foundation like Becky and sdc91 mentioned. I can't imagine parents abandoning their child. Tell him to give them some time to come around.

What I don't get is how the bible (I'm assuming your friend's parents are christian) says a lot of stuff about Love thy neighbour and God loves everyone, but then they throw their own kid out of home for something he has no control over.

    They should reread the bible.

oh, they do read the bible, its just that they pay especially close attention to the anti-gay sentiments in leviticus......

That's pretty rough. I guess it really does happen. As a parent, I just can't imagine turning my back on my kids!
