So I finally got tired of pretending and came out of my best friend. First person I've ever told. I had a feeling he knew and wouldn't care, but you all know the what-if game your mind plays. I was nervous wreck. Pretty much crying while sending this text. Wondering what he'll say. Wondering if I was about to lose my best friend. Etc etc. The usual.

Me: Hey. Remember yesterday when we were driving back to your place after dropping off my bike... What you were talking about?

    Bill: Vaguely
    Bill: Did I offend u?

Me: Haha. No that isn't what I'm trying to say.

Bill: R u coming out of closet?

Me: Hypothetically and confidentially speaking, would that surprise you?

Bill: No. Could care less! Not my business. Nor would it be an issue!

Me: Thanks. I'm struggling for words so thats about the best i can do right now

Bill: U don't need to justify anything...all good! I really don't care. Just no hitting on me, or Cait would kick u in the balls. Jk.

Me: hahahahhaha. Thank you, I needed that laugh.
Me: I haven't said anything to anyone else, and I don't really want to. So please keep it to yourself.

Bill: As I said it changes nothing and it really is nobody's business so don't worry about me yapping about it. It's your business and u share it with who u want 2!

Me: Thanks bud. I'm so tired of pretending that I'm too busy to pick up chicks when we go drinking. And basically lying to you.

Bill: Matt, I'm a cop. I may not be the smartest cat but this is not news to me. Just no bringing me to drag bars.

Me: lol. Well I kinda thought this wouldn't be breaking news to u. But it is easier said than done. Billy, *I* don't want to go to a drag bar either so don't worry.

Bill: Good! Glad that's off your chest!

Me: I just poured some vodka to take the edge off. It is slightly helping.

Bill: I know this is a big deal for u but really no need to be worried about taking edge off. U can tell me anything. I'm not some gay hater. Glad u got it off ur chest

Me: I was freaking the fuck out before and after sending that text, even though I thought it would cool. Much better now.

Bill: I could tell by the delay. Didn't phase me...won't change a thing.

Me: Hah it was that obvious huh. Good, I'm glad. Huge load off my chest.

Bill: No it wasn't obvious I just knew. And FYI buddy ...it's 2012 not 1987. Every other person is gay. Be proud of urself...not scared.

Me: Thanks. You have no idea how much better I feel.

Awesome that you have such an accepting friend!

On a sidenote, and I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I laughed when he said, 'Every other person is gay.' If only that were the truth. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Wow, what an enlightened view, from a police officer... and they are traditionally not the most openminded bunch  You're lucky to have such a great friend... and who knows, maybe a year or two down the road, you and he and his wife can all go to a drag show together. They really are a lot of fun

Congratulations on telling him, and I'm so glad he was so accepting and positive.

I especially liked the part where he was like "I'm a cop. I may not be the smartest cat but...". That bit cracked me up!

Thanks everyone. I still have to read that text conversation every few days to remind me that it was real. I'm working up to a few more that hope go just as well. I haven't told any family yet. My mom probably suspects it, but she also reminds me all the time how much she wants grand kids. Dad, I don't know.

You know, I said just about the exact same thing when my best friend took my coming out the way he did. I'm glad others have been able to have the experience. Congratz.

having friends like that is awesome

the two friends i told were completely supportive

though they both commented on the fact that when i told them i had to tell them something they thought i was going to tell them something bad, like i was dieing ....

so they were like hey, your not dieing so we're good with it

    >.> my friends...
    are awesome

they made me feel like the news i was telling them wasn't the end of the world, which its not at least for them

That was a really awesome conversation. I feel we should all strive to be a little more like Bill :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
