This is something I feared the most but last night (admittedly drunk) I told my best friend (that's a guy) that I'm gay. I got a reaction that I didn't expect at all. We both cried, talked for hours and the only thing he was upset about is that I didn't tell him first. He actually made me get in bed with him and just hug and talk...now that must be the perfect outcome! :icon_bigg

I think I can now change my 'out status' to friends, because all the friends that truly matter to me know that I'm gay. Others, if they ask, I'll tell them. I no longer have to be scared that somebody will tell him and I'm just really happy right now. :eusa_danc

I'm a little hungover so this post is probably a little unstructured, but I want you all to know that those you're scared to tell, will probably surprise you!

That's one outstanding friend you have there. While I'm out to nearly all my straight guy friends, and all the ones I've told have taken it no less than wonderfully, I doubt they'd cry with me about it or snuggle with me in bed for any reason. Awfully deep stuff~ Glad to hear things turned out so well for you~

 Ha, very interesting. And I now know that he still feels the same because he just text me saying that he's glad I told him. I feel like I can be myself now

Thanks. He's a pretty deep guy, he's straight, but really open with his emotions. I kinda knew he would take it well, but was too scared to risk it. Luckily the alcohol helped me tell him sooner rather than later, because I don't think he was happy I didn't tell him before others.

Congrats!!! And thanks for sharing. This gives me hope. I haven't come out to anyone yet, but my closest friend is going to be the first. I'm not sure when I will tell her yet. Right now, I'm still working on making sure I fully accept it myself. It's been a long, hard road for me to come to terms with it. I'm terrified to tell her. She and I have been friends since we were five years old. We met on the very first day of kindergarten. She is amazing, though, and I have a feeling she will take it well. But as you said, I'm just too scared to risk that right now. Again, thank you for sharing and I'm so proud of you for telling him!!!

Thanks! Trust me, it's those that you're not sure about that surprise you the most. If it's your closest friend, make sure it's face-to-face so you can talk it through and hug it out etc. it makes it really personal and your bond as friends will grow so much stronger. It's also important that you're fully out to yourself too. Good luck, I'm sure she will love you all the same!
