I did it. I made the official announcement to my mother (in my own twisty way): “So, I’m actually pretty gay.” She said, “Yeah, I kind of knew that.” I've hinted at it before in conversation with her. I called her once after ending it with a girl who broke my heart and she took it in stride, but we never really addressed it head-on. She is Church of Christ hardcore and I converted to Judaism because of the other side of my family. She wishes I accepted Jesus but she says at least we worship the same god. I asked her what it was like to have a gay Jewish daughter. She said, “I love you.”
