So I spent a couple nights at my grandma's house. I pretty much knew she figured I liked girls so I decided to take this opportunity to come out to her. We were putting a puzzle together when she started to talk about a show she saw about a transsexual's transition.

She said she was trying to understand their struggle so I said "Well I go on an LGBT site and even though I may not understand the struggles in that situation, I try to because I can't imagine how hard that must be." She nodded and agreed. Then after a rather awkward pause she asked, "So what would make my girl happy?" and I smiled and said "Does anyone ever really know?" She chuckled and replied "I guess not."

Then later, she was talking about jealousy in relationships. She said it didn't matter if it was a boyxgirl, boyxboy, or girlxgirl relationship, jealousy is always going to be there. I told her, "Well I was in love with a girl." She went to have a cigarette and then came back in and sat next to me. The conversation went like this:
    "Was it [girl's name here]?"
    "Yes."
"I kinda figured you loved her."
"Really? Was our beach trip that gave it away?"
"Yes. I saw how you acted around her."

We discussed it a bit longer, how I sometimes felt guilty about it and she told me not to. Now we're going on a beach trip to cheer me up from my heartbreak. I love my grandma.

    Thank you for reading!

My grandma is the last person I have to tell. I know she'll be cool with it just like yours. She's one of my favorite people ever. Grandmas rule

*fist bumps you* Yeah, I knew that she knew. It was the silence that killed me. She said she knew better than to bring it up before I did.

Oh man, I'm SCARED to come out to my grandma... I mean, I know she's gonna still love me and be just as accepting as yours and all that, i know THAT for a fact.... Um, i just don't feel confident enough to tell her though, just everyone else in the world

Omg could you have a more awesome grandma? She's amazing!! :eusa_clap (!)

She just asked what would make you happy, and that is the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I swear if only the world had more people like your grandma in it, it would be a better place.

Haha yeah I told quite a few people before I told her. Her and my mom have given me the best responses upon coming out because they both had known for quite some time so it wasn't such a shock. Good luck when you choose to come out to her though. (*hug*)

I know what you mean! I cannot think of a more selfless response than that. "What would make YOU happy?" "Do what makes YOU happy even if others don't understand." She's so inspiring! :icon_bigg

I'm SOOO blessed! I'm so glad my grandmother could touch your life as well! Her understanding is truly awe-inspiring!

Congratulations! I'm glad it went so well!

I wish I could have come out to either of my grandmas. But by the time I got it sorted myself, it was too late. :frowning2:

No, that wouldn't have been nearly as sad. They had both died by then.

Thats an awesome Grandma and they say the older generation doesn't support LGBT people. Well.. this proves them wrong.
