Out to my parents! I was nervous? Why exactly?

So as I've mentioned, I came out to my parents via letter today that I e-mailed. I really don't get their reaction, it wasn't what I was anticipating. You see, these are deeply religious people, that have repeatedly told me that homosexuality is a sin, gays to to hell, blah blah blah.

Then I get this as part of a reply from my mom:

    She goes on to say

My Dad was the exact same way. Why was I so nervous again? This went well beyond my wildest expectations. I'm the happiest guy on the planet right now! (!)

Amazing... it's awesome how parents can be so supportive and accepting because of the love for their children, even when it goes against their beliefs.

    Congratulations!

Congratulations!!! It is always nice to hear of people whose coming out turned out better than expected. It shows us to never judge a book by its cover.

Sometimes, the coming out of a loved one helps people, who are otherwise homophobic, learn to be accepting. I recently came out to three relatives, a couple who are very conservative; and the reactions weren't negative. I feel so much better about myself and sometimes we assume the worst when thinking about coming out to certain people.
