came out to my aunt and mum

    ok so basically my aunt and i were going to see a movie that we had both wanted to see for ages (it was shit) and on the way there, she asked me about who i had a crush on (she always asks me that) and i said "... [very long pause] this may be a surprise, but i don't actually like girls..."
    her: "you're gay?"
    me: "yep pretty much"
    her: "that's cool! have you told your mum?"
    me: "no, can you please not tell her? i'll tell her tomorrow" (my aunt lives with us for now)
    her: "ok"
    ~END OF CONVERSATION~

    i plan to come out to my mum tomorrow, and just take it from there :icon_bigg

    i'm so happy that she was ok with it!(!) (!) (!)

    Whoa, my aunt does that too, but I would never just tell her. She also might be a lesbian, though... Anyway, congrats!

    Congratz!! You're lucky, I wish my aunt was like that. Gay people came up in a conversation once and she was like, 'You don't want to be a lesbian', and I was standing there like, 'grrrr...'

    I literally wanted to scream at her.
    That said, we get along very well, so when that happened I was really annoyed because if I came out to her, it might affect our relationship. *sigh*

    i came out to my mum today!
    me: i need to talk to you about something. i've told Dalia (my aunt) about this and i think you should know.
    her: ok...
    me: *shaking, heart pounding* i'm... gay.
    her: you sure?
    me: yes
    her: how long have you had these feelings for?
    me: i've known for a year, but i've had feelings for boys for around 4 years.
    her: i'm not saying this is a phase, but you're so young. are you really sure?
    me: *a bit annoyed* yes.
    her: well, i know you said you're gay, but don't rule out the possibility of liking girls...
    me: :dry: how do you think dad will react?
    her: [long pause] i don't think he'd be too happy.
    me: why?
    her: well, he's had a traditional muslim upbringing and he doesn't know anyone who's gay...


    so i've decided not to tell my dad for now, and i'm kinda pissed off that my mum thinks its a phase. but i'm glad she took it well :slight_smile:

    ps can paul or someone change the title of this thread to "came out to my aunt + mum"

    I'm still shocked about your aunt: "You're gay" - "Yes, pretty much" - "That's cool" LOL
    Awesome awesome! Well remember parents are the hardest *sighs* and by far if your mom didn't yelled at you or threw things are you or other stuff it's alright.

    There must be some sort of tradition with lesbian aunts. I have two aunts myself and I have strong suspicions about both of them...

    Haha your aunt must be like waay rad "that's cool!" haha funny shit right thurr! Lol

    Yeah when I came out to my mom, she asked "are you sure" too, but only once, so I don't think she thought it was just a phase; I would hate for something that took so much courage to tell her to be brushed off as "just a phase"

    But congratulations it looks like she'll get over it (she'll have to lollll)

    Congratz!! Sorry about your dad though. :frowning2: Be careful because people with a muslim upbringing are really tight about this kind of thing...I should know. I've lived in Dubai for 8 years.

    yeah, i know. its shitty. i was watching project catwalk yesterday with my mum and my dad walks in, sees one of the contestants atmitting that hes gay, and says "bloody gays, why can't they just be :***:ing normal??"

    and i was like: :dry: :dry: :dry:

    so yeah i'm pretty pissed off:tantrum:

    Congratulations, interstella! It's a real shame you're dad was brought up in such a way that he thinks he has the right to degrade people who are "outside the box" of traditional (add to that backward, impractical, and ethno-/egocentric) Muslim norms. Don't worry, though; he's part of a dying breed... if that's any comfort. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
