I went up to my parents house today as I usually do on a Sunday, for my dinner, my Stepdad was in the kitchen preparing dinner & I was in the lounge with my Mom talking, my Mom asked me what I did yesterday & I replied that I had gone to Birmingham to attend the Gay Pride Parade, I said "it was quite big & all types of people attended LGBT & even Straight People, some were there with their families.

My Mom looked at me & said "can I ask you something, are you Gay" there was a dramatic pause & I thought to myself, shall I lie & say "don't be stupid, I am Straight" or shall I be honest & finally tell the truth" I looked at her & said "Yes" my Mom said "why didn't you say something" I said "because I have only came to terms with it myself this year".

My Stepdad came in & said "that dinner was ready" we sat down & ate our dinner & talked in between, just everyday subjects, but no about being Gay, the rest of the day went great, I walked the dog & we had a game of dominoes, everything carried on as normal, I am now back home & my guess is, that my Mom will discuss it with my Stepdad this evening & break the news to him.

I did feel awkward at the time, but OMG I have come out of the closet to my Mom & told her that I was Gay (!)(!)(!)(!)

    Congratulations! (*hug*)

It must have been so difficult to say those words, but your mother took is so well!

I'm so out and proud about myself, that I'm ready to come out to my parents, but my friends have told me to to risk it yet, because we're aware of how my dad would react. So I have to hold back till I'm 18.

Once again I'm glad it went so well for you! I'm sure that your stepdad will take the news just as well.

I think talking about you being at the event, as well as family members who were there showing acceptance and support of their kids/relatives is a very effective way to open that awkward conversion, because it frames the situation and the new reality of a gay child in an inclusive manner for the parent. Whether it was planned in that amount of detail or not :icon_bigg

    Congrats DB.
