It is, but it gives time to publicize the amendment and get more support. I'm just glad to see that some progress is finally being made in my home state.

Here is a link to Equality Ohio. I looked at the comments. Most of them ranged from cruel to ignorant.

The comments are pretty bad, but 10tv has more of a conservative viewer base. I couldn't find the article anywhere else since it's a pretty recent development.

I don't like the idea of civil rights being put up to popular vote. Hopefully the voters will do the right thing though.

I honestly don't think it being left to a vote will last more than a couple more years.

All it takes is multiple lawsuits citing SCOTUS's ruling on DOMA to end up with another case at DOMA to whether or not states can decide the federal rights of it's citizens... which it obviously can't. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Why they left section 2 of DOMA intact, I'll never understand. They pretty much said "defining marriage as only between a man and a woman is discriminatory and imposes on the federal rights of same-sex couples, but oh, states are welcome to continue to discriminate and violate those rights on their own accord."

I don't think the rights of a minority should be chosen by the majority, but hopefully they can the right thing and pull through. It is a good step towards equality though!

Great news. NOM is going to have a field day with this. I wonder what crap they'll be spurting out for this?

Polling for same-sex marriage is surprisingly good in Ohio. How that translates to voting, especially with midterm demographics and voter suppression efforts, is another story. It could get defeated just because it's an off-year or the rest of the ballot sucks.

Which is another way of saying that civil rights shouldn't be up for a popular vote, but I'm okay with applauding the right things happening the "wrong" way sometimes.
