Like I was going to go to Putin's dictatorship country that would have beaten the crap out of me treated me to free pizza and ice cream? Oh, don't forget. I'm from the US. They'd surely want to tear my face off, anyway. give me a lounge right next to the Ice while I'm rooting for my country Canada.

I would really love to see the US boycott the 2014 Olympics, and get a lot of other countries to do so as well.

I don't know why the olympics is being held in Russia to begin with. North Korea next?

Somehow, I expect an announcement in the next few months that the winter olympics have been relocated.

Or that half the countries have withdrawn.

This makes me sad. :frowning2: every time I hear about Russia's homophobic policies, it makes me glad I'm not in Russia. My heart goes out to those who are.

for getting....well you get the picture.

I sincerely hope that the winter Olympics gets relocated, or at the very least struck with major boycotts.

I think Russia has almost become as bad as it was in the Soviet era. Ironically fueled by religion this time, ironically the mortal enemy of Marx and Lenin.

Well it has gone from a fake communist state to a fake Democratic federation.

Last I heard the International Olympic Council reaffirmed that gay athletes would still be welcome... not sure if a response was ever heard from Russia.

If I was an athlete then I would just not attend.

I honestly wanna know what's going to happen.

Doing research, the IOC was okay when Russia banned the Pride House from being at the Olympics.

But they seem to be concerned about what to do when the safety of some of their athletes, visitors, and spectators is concerned.

I'm expecting a relocation, to be quite honest.

Arrest them! Arrest all the Muscovites! They have brought rainbows on our city!

Seriously, this makes me sad. Putin makes my skin crawl; the day he leaves is the day Russia can finally face up to the fact that they just seem to be crawling further and further back to the 1980s. :frowning2:

This story really sickens me. Seems for every step forward there's always a step backwards...

I'm having the exact opposite reaction. After reading this, why would we boycott it? We could be actively pushing for EVERYONE to go and wear something with rainbows on it in support of gay rights. If we can get thousands upon thousands of people there showing their support for LGBT Rights, is the Russian government really going to risk pissing off that many countries by arresting their citizens?

Show up. Shine a spotlight on what is taking place in Russia. Every LGBT Supportive Athlete should mention something about LGBT Rights in Russia whenever they get a microphone shoved in their face.

Fuck you, Putin. With no lube. Go ahead and engage in mass arrests. I dare you.

Massive International Civil Disobedience > Boycott

I think that kind of mass demonstration would be awesome and uplifting actually!!! It would take a lot of bravery... people might get beat up who are just staying for the olympics, some might be killed by homophobes for all we know... If the whole word showed up with rainbows EVERYWHERE, that would be overwhelming for their small minds :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I feel like Violence would spike unless this movement is organized, and it probably wouldn't be... unless we each pass the message on to as many places as we know... 100 or so people wearing rainbows in Russia during the olympics can certainly be detained :x

Boycotting seems safer, but a rainbow arch movement from the world to russia would be awesome, the kind of news story that would make me cry, and I would go if I was allowed to!

I definitely think all the athletes can do something about it... haha what if we could get EVERY athlete who is interviewed to say something about it? That would be a nice consolation prize for me if it doesn't get relocated
