How long do you think before we are all accepted?

How long do you think before gay marriage is legal everywhere? I think my state will be the very last in the US.

By then most of our older homophobic generation will be dead so opposition will be small, AAANNNDD, we will probably have even less racist people.

25-ish years, maybe. Within the next century, probably. Unless Caiden Cowger actually gets airtime on the radio.

I think that in more liberal areas it will only take a few years. I've heard areas like California and New York are fairly accepting of LGBT people. But, I think it will take the southeast another 15-20 years for any legislation to be passed that legalizes gay marriage. And even after that, alot of people won't accept gay people.

And how does he plan on doing that? Putting cameras in everyone's bedrooms?!
Can we just take all the people like him and throw them into a ravine?

Where do you come from? Montana sucks really hard on queer issues. We could have a contest. Anyway, America in general sucks really hard on queer issues. I think Dan has a pretty good take on this (from 2:10). Please understand that I hate Dan Savage with every fiber of my being, but that doesn't mean everything he says is wrong.

We'll never be able to get everyone to support us. It's like racism: it'll always be there but it can become less prominent.

I'd give it 70ish years. But what john1b1 said, it can only be less prominent

This is a great analogy. And if it's coming from the Bay Area, it's got a good perspective. I was talking to someone in my line of work who is employed in San Francisco who then went with his boss to a happy hour after work. This person is an acquaintance and is single, so I don't know about his personal life. However, his boss who is married proceeded to make derisive comments about gays during the happy hour ... in San Francisco. The person telling me this was more in a state of disbelief than upset. Disbelief is about right.

  13. I'll give it about 30-50 years. In the New York times, by the time of 2020, six states will still have the acceptance of gay rights below 50%. Obviously, those states are in the Deeper areas of the Bible belt (not including Texas). I think we'll all live to see the day when all the states legalizes gay-marriage, although we might have a wheelchair by that time :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

^ this. all your 25+/50+ year predictions are highly optimistic. people forget how homosexuality is treated outside of the US (i.e., imprisonment, death etc.).

I know! Singapore has refused to overturn the law banning homosexuality. It's very strange for a developed nation. Most developed countries are rather liberal :/

We will all be dead when homosexuality is fully accepted.

But legal rights will come within 30 years.

I'm an optimistic person, but there's no way in hell it will take as little as 50 years, as some of you are suggesting, for the Middle East, Central Asia and most of Africa.
