Rick Santorum, notorious for opposing marriage equality, really sums it up and inadvertently makes the central case for marriage equality by admitting forming bonds and a family is beneficial to society.

Gays and lesbians should not be forced into the fringes of society.

    Great article to read.

    Opinion: Rick Santorum

For once, Santorum actually didn't have a load of santorum come out of his mouth. We all know he obviously didn't mean to make a case for SSM, but it's still very hilarious that he did.

Limiting marriage to straight couples is self-centered, exactly what he rightly says we need less of. I've been saying for a long time that whatever benefits straight married couples bring to society are equally brought by gay married couples. The article never says why he thinks gay married couples can't benefit society in the same way, it just says he claims that government should therefore limit marriage to straight couples. But why?

Similarly NOM talks about how important traditional marriage is for society but never says how married gay couples actually harm society. The only claim they can make is that children have a right to be raised by their biological parents. We know that's not always in the child's best interest. I'd say children have a right to be raised where they are loved, protected, provided for, and by people who actually want to be their parents. Those kids are far better off than kids raised by their biological parents who neglect, abuse, torture and sometimes kill them.

Including gay couples in marriage doesn't limit the number of straight couples allowed to get married.
