General News Yahoo gives adult tumblr blogs the hachet; blocks certain LGBT tags

I'm honestly glad that I stopped using tumblr.

 

I have never used tumblr either, but I have to admit. It is going to be interesting watching this escalate.

 

Sigh I rarely used it for this but -_- lol.

 

OMG NOOOOOO! Tumblr was my life! I use to sit and cry reblogging pictures of hot people I wish I could be and now I can't even do that? What has the world come to, seriously?

 

#headdesk. What they do with porn blogs is their own business, even if this kind of bait-and-switch behaviour does smell bad. But blocking LGBT tags... I suggest that the next logical move is for Tumblr to go darknet entirely. After all, most blogs are made by humans. And under their clothes, they're NAKED! And you never know when a pornographer is about.

 

Why does this not surprise me? Yahoo has an uncanny knack for killing every single company that they buy. Flickr, now Tumblr, probably lots of others that I can't name right now.

 

Fuck Yahoo.

But are they actually removing/banning adult Tumblr sites, or just blocking them from being found by search engines? It's upsetting that stupid corporations are dragging free expression on the internet backwards (and dragging us backward as a society when it comes to talking about sex and LGBT-related topics), but as long as I still have access to all the gay Tumblrs I already peruse, I'll just have to find new ways of discovering new Tumblr sites.

If they are removing them though, I'll be really upset. Of course there are lots of cool free porn blogs which gather up all the best stuff, but there are also a lot of non-pornographic LGBT-related blogs on there too.

 

When are they going to learn? SEX IS NOT A BAD THING.

Well, it's Marissa Mayer, so I'm not surprised. Basically, she benefited from feminism to get from where she was (a high-powered executive at Google) to where she is and then proceeded to trash feminism. First it was her trashing the remote work policy, and now it's blocking a subset of queer tags...

By what I understand it takes any and every adult blog and makes it's impossible to find unless you already follow them, know the url, or can find them through someone you follow reblogging something of theirs. That is fucking bullshit, it's a blog. People can BLOG WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT.

If I want a wall of T&A I can have it. If I want a wall of dick I can have it. Fuck this makes me mad.

But PSSH, I have An almost endless supply of porn sites to just find whenever. It won't affect me too bad

Pinterest has some hot guys, although I don't think it's specifically allowed in the TOS, as I've seen porn on there, and I've gone back later and it was gone, but you can have a secret board on pinterest that no one can see, but I don't trust it like I trusted Tumblr because it's linked to my FB and tumblr wasn't.

 

This really hasn't changed anything for me, although I never used tags to search for porn.
Not that I think removing this is a good idea of course...

However from what I can gather from the most recent staff post on Tumblr it hasn't actually even happened:

If you have safe mode off then everything should appear (mobile apps notwithstanding, as explained in the second point).

Point 3 says it may affect whether they show up in search engines but this doesn't affect the internal tag search on Tumblr:

For testing purposes grin I just turned on safe mode and searched the 'dick' tag and got no results. Then I turned it off and did it again and got just what I expected... so they aren't lying.

 

I just double checked, against my better judgment.

All the searches still work perfectly fine. The only difference, as Ridiculous pointed out, is they don't work if Safe Mode is on.

Which, I don't see as a problem. Including Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual in it is a bit fucked up, yes, but in general, the vast majority of the posts tagged as such typically are NSFW. Whereas if you search straight, the vast majority are far from NSFW.

 

I tried searching for 'gay' and 'lesbian' with safe search on it automatically changes it to 'lgbtq' and searches for that instead. Interesting.

Anyway I don't think this is Yahoo's fault - it is Apple's stupid rules about what can be allowed in apps for their products. Of course Yahoo won't be helping though.

 

WHY?! NO!! Why does Yahoo have to go and mess up what doesn't need any "fixing"?!

 

Tumblr was shitty anyway.
