What is the world coming to! Seriously, not to bring cops down (my brother is a cop) but sometimes they take their authority to a level they don't have a right to.
But I try and keep myself calm as i remember back in history all the times the US has fucked up on discrimination then looked back and saw how dumb it was. We'll get there one day  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:ride::newcolor:

I discussed this point on another forum, and was advised that these laws, while still on the books, are never enforced. Sounds like they are.

If State laws are struck down at the federal level, they should be taken off the books so that over-zealous LEOs can't exceed their authority.

It makes perfect sense. Even though the Sodomy laws have been struck down, some states still have them on the books because they refuse to remove them. Virginia is such a place, where our Attorney General (who is now running for Governor), is actively fighting to keep them on the books.

The cops in question know that the people they arrest have committed no crime. They know no prosecutions will be made. That's not the point. The point is that they want to harass people who are gay and out them to the public. In other words, if this older gentleman in question wasn't out to his family, well guess what - they're going to know now, as is the entire community - including his place of employment, because his name is likely going to appear in the local news paper.

The point is to harass, shame, and force LGBT people in their community to leave or else they'll get caught and publicly exposed.

This is horrible and makes me feel sick. I can't help but wonder, however, whether the cops are acting of their own accord or if some political power-that-be is pulling their strings...

I wouldn't be surprised if many local sheriffs in the South are still enforcing unenforceable unconstitutional laws to harass gay men down there. It's just amazing how some things never change, with the Southern ruling classes investing so much time and effort in concocting schemes to get around federal laws and keep denying minority populations civil rights, from the era of Jim Crow and literacy tests and poll taxes to the present day.

It's not really enforced because they're never charged, due to Lawrence v Texas, but what's really crazy is that louisiana hasn't moved past this issue by now. I mean it's really pathetic and i would never live there.

I hope they start enforcing the no shorts on Sunday law again.

Oh, wait. That doesn't make any sense either.

Yeah, but they haven't enforced it for years. At least where I live.
