What does he mean by "Lobbying the orientation?"

Gay people lobbying for equal rights because of their sexual orientations, which he seems to condemn as greedy.

So, he is saying we should be mixed into society to basically be invisible, and we should quit fighting for equal rights because he says it is greedy?

Thats ridiculous. We just want to be happy, and it would be of little effort to enable us to get married, if only there was no opposition. Equality is never greed.

    Yes.

    Also yes.

Really, for someone not judging gay people, he's doing a lot of judging of gay people. Still, I think he's better than his predecessor.

He has, hasn't he? He may be better than his predecessor, but it doesn't really matter. We don't live, die or marry at the whim of the catholic church anymore.

The Pope: "You can be gay, so long as you keep it to yourself, remember that you are a sinner, and don't lobby for equal rights. We don't hate gay people. We just hate everything that makes them gay."

The Pope: "Hahaha. Women Priests. Get real. No way. Not going to happen. Someone go tell Sister Mary to make me a sandwich, I'm hungry after my trip here to Brazil."

That more-or-less summed up what he said. The difference of opinion between the old and new pope, is that the new one knows how to insult you while still seeming nice and polite about it.

I kind of like this pope. At least he's not judging.

I like this. I like this because if nothing else, it's at least somewhat of a shift in change of "Perhaps they aren't that different from us" It may not be a huge change that happens in like the next 5 years, but if it's at least a small step, that will then influence thousands of people to do the same.

I also don't think it's SPECIFICALLY LGBT lobbies he hates (as he's mentioned the Masonic ones), it's probably lobbies in general. I could be wrong, though. I'd like to hear a breakdown of it, actually.

Don't read too much into this. The Catholic church makes a distinction between being gay (being attracted to the same gender) and acting gay (engaging in sexual activities, for example). When he says "gay people should not be marginalised because they are gay", he means it in the exact same sense as "murderers should not be marginalised because they are murderers". Remember, it is a sin to kill and if you honestly and fully repent, your soul can still be saved. The same is with engaging in sexual activities. Having sex with a man (if you are a man) is a sin. There's no change in this.

If you are gay, but spend your whole life in celibacy, taking care to avoid even dirty thoughts, you are ok by the Catholic church. If you have sex with a man (if you are a man) you are a sinner, worthy of eternal damnation. It is a duty of every true Catholic to show you your sins and make you repent so that your soul can be saved.

So, yeah, what he's saying is that we should be helped to understand where we broke away from God. We should be helped to understand our road is the wrong one.

And in that sense, it's obvious that gay lobbying is directly the opposite.

except it's not, it's the same tired 'hate the sin love the sinner' bullshit being used forever.

I'll take it with a grain of salt. I feel like it's a step up from some of the earlier popes at least <_<

For the record he's referring to lobbyists in general with that statement, he goes on to list a bunch of others directly afterwards.

And yeah, the reason pope francis says 'who am I to judge gay people', is because he believes it's god that does the judging, not him.

This needs to be quoted and read again by everyone in this thread. He isn't supporting us. He's only better than his predecessor because it is difficult to be worse.
