    I always wonder why ABC/Yahoo seem to have the most far-right nutcase commenters, even compared to actual far-right sites like foxnews.

    On topic, nothing surprises me with Russia anymore - they're basically a third world country.

    They still are. It was just a lawmaker who stated that they should. Putin wouldn't let it happen - the damage to relations would be unspeakable. If Putin actually agreed to prosecute them I'd be seriously stunned.

    Russia has this thing called the Russian Orthodox church that basically has strong ties with the government.

    And yes, people resent Russia for this. Putin doesn't care.

    I highly doubt RussiaFirst's government would dare arrest olympic contestants. It would destroy relationships with the countries that said contestants came from.

    Just remember that Russia is a country of hundreds of millions of people and, while a large portion of the population is very right-wing, you cannot generalise millions (and attack millions) based on the actions of people in parliament. When you start to think of countries or ethnic groups as being a single personality or having a singular opinion, that's when you get monsters like the young turks.

    Countries aren't people.

    I dare Russia to go ahead and do it. In fact, go for the gold and arrest an American. Obama will flip fifteen different colors of shit if that happens, and the attention it would bring to this issue and the international reaction to the arrests would make it clear Russia has little support on this.

    Like they would care. The are basically self sustained and have far more to offer the world than vice versa. Russia can go without anything from abroad, while the rest of the world can't do without Russia. Remember the turmoil when they just mentioned they would lower amounts of gas delivered to western Europe (temporarily, because of Ukraine)?
