    I was also wondering about the effect this will have on people who try to come out at the school now. Will this create negative reactions because of the link with sexuality?

    I'd like to mention that pedophilia means sexual attraction towards prepubescent children (usually younger than 10 or 11). I'd like to get that out of the way, because many people often label people who have sex with pubescent minors as pedophiles, but that's incorrect. It's still at least statutory rape (or play old rape if physical violence is involved), but not pedophilia.

    Hmm. Weird. I though it came from Greek terms relating to the gay relationships between men and boys. They had to be older than twelve but younger than eighteen. Eh, I guess meaning has been scrambled around somewhere.

    Yes. And unlike pedophilia, ephebophilia is not considered to be a mental illness, nor a paraphilia. From a biological POV, there's nothing wrong with being sexually attracted to a mid-to-late adolescents.

    I don't see any mention of this individual's sexual orientation, so why would this situation "fuel the 'gays are paedos' campaign"? Paedophilia is a separate pattern of sexual attraction, not a gay or straight thing.

    True, but I think the contention is that many (ignorant) people associate homosexuality with paedophilia and this sort of story only adds fuel to their fire since it was a male molesting a male child.
