LGBT News Brutal videos fuel Russian anti-gay campaign

It feels like Russia's going down a slippery slope, even with the LGBT community digging heels in But it's all civilian effort. No governments are getting involved, so the problem just gets worse as homophobes are emboldened by the russian govt. show of support for them.

 

Is being gay punishable by death? because then it is genocide, and the UN would need to get involved, right?

 

Homosexuality is not banned by the Russian government. The only thing being banned in the spread of any and all homosexual "propaganda" and information to children under the age of 18. However, this impacts the national response to violence against homosexuals since their behavior is considered abhorrent and unnatural by the federal government. They are comparing homosexuality to pedophilia.

 

Not yet, but they have a law on the works that would make the public flogging of homosexuals legal, so the death sentences are likely not far behind. Iran and other such countries have laws punishing homosexuality with death, and the UN hasn't gotten involved there. Human rights violations are not what lead to a country being invaded (plus, Russia has nukes).
