WWII Veteran Marries Partner of 20 Years in Senior Home's First Gay Wedding: VIDEO| Gay News | Towleroad

A senior citizens' home filled with military veterans is probably one of the most hostile environments in the United States against same-sex marriage. (Few issues have such a wide disparity based on age as marriage equality does, with youth supporting overwhelmingly, while the elderly oppose it overwhelmingly).

Yet even here we are seeing progress. These two old veterans marrying shatters the myth many of their fellow old vets might have had about being gay being some new perversion that appeared among the godless youth; some of the very men they fought alongside in battle are gay and in love with each other and even marrying.

And while this clearly was not without controversy, it sounds like the response was overall positive; at the very least, opposition appears somewhat muted, with one old man saying that he doesn't believe in same-sex marriage because his religion is against it, but that he supports the right of this couple to marry as they choose to do as Americans. Apparently none of the people who vehemently opposed this marriage were even willing to speak to the reporters. Clearly there is progress being made; the anti-gay side has lost this culture war.
