Gay man left paralyzed in vicious New Glasgow attack - Nova Scotia - CBC News

    Its almost sureal.

It is unimaginable to think that someone in Canada would do this, perhaps some religious extremists...

Its rare that even something like this happens...

Usually the only people that would do stabbings and armed fights on streets is gangs at night is "Ghetto neighbourhoods"

My mom can't find out about this, she will worry too much about me...

Oh my gosh that's so sad, this guy sounds like such a cool sweet guy, a popular accomplished musician, and now he's paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. And for what? Because he had a preference for the same-sex? So sad, so terrible, so ridiculous....:tears:

This is very disturbing for myself...being gay but perhaps not being as open anymore is a good thing. I'll admit it to others but people now say unless I told them, they never would have known oddly enough compared to high school where people just KNEW. But especially given I want to be a television reporter and eventually become a lead anchor, thus would be known around town. So yeah...this just frustrates me. Though perhaps the CBC reporter does so more because she almost seemed uncaring. It honestly was dead to me from her.

Wow. I really wish I had an appropriate thing to say to this, but I doubt there's a combination of words that would actually work.

I can say I'm really disappointed. This is just so brutal... I love how people still resort to this kind of stuff. Seriously...

I think that anyone who does something like this should have to have the same thing done to them. So yes I'm saying these people should be stabbed twice in the back and paralized from th waist down. The motherf!!!ers deserve it.

Things were far worse before Stonewall, when most queers came out only to each other. It was only after the Stonewall riots, and ACT UP and the gay rights movement that it was possible--unless you were an artist or jazz musician and lived outside the mainstream anyway--to be queer in public.
I say that cause no one should think that hiding is going to make you safer. It won't. Yes, there are really fucked up people out there--because we live in a really fucked up world, a culture of racism, violence, exploitation and Hetero White Male Domination. In hiding, we are each of us alone in that horror show of a world, trying to stay invisible. Together we have power. Together we can learn to stand up for one another, to protect one another.

The worst thing this kind of violence can do, is make us think we have to go back into hiding. We do that, and the haters win! So yeah--being queer in public is more than an individual thing. It's what we do for others, out of love for one another. Do not let fear be your master!

Hate to say I grew up near to where this happened.
I was aware that homophobia still existed in the community, we always seem to be a few decades behind the rest of Canada. But I was truly surprised that something like this could happen in my community.

Also they did catch the perpetrator:
