General News Dutch diplomat attacked in Russia

    Relations between Russia and the Netherlands have taken a few hits last weeks: Seizure of a Greenpeace ship flying the Dutch flag in international waters by Russian authorities and a Russian diplomat was arrested in the Netherlands after multiple reports of criminal behaviour and child abuse by said diplomat.

    Now a Dutch diplomat has been attacked by two Russians in his flat. When the attackers left, the wrote 'lgbt' on a mirror, suggesting a hate attack by homophobes.

    Please EU, create an united front against the Russian government and her crimes for once, instead of only listening to economic arguments to keep relations simple and profitable...

    I think it is best to avoid dealing with countries that are mistreating homosexuals. Do not purchase their goods nor attend any of their major events. I'm taking about doing this at a personal level, not for the government to transform this attitude into foreign policy. Foreign policy is a delicate government instrument and is reserved to meet the country immediate/urgent national interests.

    Yeah, that would be very difficult. Russian gas is far more practical, and the only other fairly practical way to get gas would be a pipeline through Syria from even more homophobic countries. Russia is not a country any other country can risk relations with, especially trade relations for the EU.
