This makes me really optimistic. New Jersey was one of the states with CU's, but now that they ruled CU unequal, it sets a precedent for other states with similar laws. I'm also kind of glad to see Cris Christie lose this one, as well. Congrats New Joisey(Jersey)! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

One day Aussie, one day even the rest of the world. (Personally I can -maybe- see that in the next 50 years. Probably less, probably more. I don't really know because I'm not familiar with every countries opinions, cultures, religion etc.)

It will be centuries before it's legal in every country. There are still countries where being gay is punishable by death!

When is Illinois going to finish this farce and make it legal?

We've been working on it for ages

I believe the number is now 14. That's a bit less than a third of the country. Pretty remarkable. While there had been several other states that paved the way in various ways, I can remember 6 or 7 years ago when the mayor of San Francisco courageously just started letting gay people marry... and that brought the whole controversy to the forefront in a in a big way. And now 14 states.

I wonder how this compares to the adoption of civil rights protections? My guess is it's been a faster trajectory. But when you get to 14... the dominoes do start to fall pretty quickly.

Tell me about it. I went on a quick survey thing with Illinois Unites for Marriage, and although I haven't been able to do anything else with all that I'm doing right now, I do really feel that I need to express the fact that I still wish I had the time to do some more things like phone banks and surveys. There's also the march to Sprinfield which I probably won't be able to attend :frowning2: But still, I DO really want this to happen. Why can't Illinois make up its mind? This really shouldn't be that hard, especially in a state as liberal as Illinois.

It's going to be so embarrassing for the last state which legalises gay marriage.

I can't believe this. I went to a cocktail party and it was so touching to see these men who have been partnered for 25plus years get emotional at the thought of being able to be legally married. Truly a momentous time for the LGBT community.

I know! It's been dragging on forever. I was really angry when they decided against voting on it at the last minute.

This is great news!! Congrats NJ! The case on the merits in January will be another victory for equality. The state has no reason to discriminate against gay and lesbian couples which isn't going to change with whatever nonsense they present in court. It's all been said before and there is no valid reason to not include gay couples in civil marriage. Onward equality!!

14 states and counting. By the end of November, it will be legal in New Mexico, by the end of next year, it could be legal in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Michigan, Oregon and Colorado.

Michele Bachmann's prophetic words from the early 2000's may eventually come true.

"If we don't amend the Constitution to define marriage between a man and a woman, than these activist judges (Judges who rule based on the Constitution and not the Bible) or the Democrats will make it legal not just here in Minnesota, but everywhere else too."
