    OH MY GOD! I think marriage equality is going to be passed in Australia!

    It's probably going to pass in the Australian Capital Territory!


    (But the high court will challenge, so give a few weeks and it'll probably be scrapped)

    And now we have to listen to a Rabbi on the news talking about how bad gay people are. YAY! Lol the journalist is destroying the idiot rabbi!

    Shortly after 11:30am today(22 October, 2013), the Parliament of the Australian Capital Territory voted in favour of Marriage Equality by creating a Marriage Act there defines marriage as being between two consenting adults. No mention of gender.

    The Australian Labor Party and the Australian Green Party Legislators voted in favour 9 to 8. Those opposed was the Liberal Party which runs elections based race, religion, gender, etc. The newly elected Abbott led Liberal/National Coalition Government will challenging this at the High Court since their ability to veto laws made by the Territories was enacted during the most previous Parliament.

    This is a victory not only for the LGBT Communities but for society.

    It was passed 9 votes to 8 votes in the Parliament of the Australian Capital Territory. The Federal Government announced the other day that they will be challenging this at the High Court.

    The State Government of New South Wales is considering it's own marriage equality laws.

    Probably not going to pass. If it wins in the High Court (which I doubt it will), Abbott might end up managing to over-turn it in Parliament. So, our biggest hope is that the Senate rejects a refusal if the High Court accepts it. :dry:

    It's a start though, and hopefully it will encourage more states to pass a bill. Which will put pressure on the high court and senate. I would like it to be federal law and not state law.
