Wow, so back to the senate, where it passed before, and the Gov. says he'll sign it!

    This is great.

With this, I think about 40% of Americans by population will live in states with legal gay marriage...which will pressure the Supreme Court to take another look, I would hope.

Wow, New Jersey only just legalized SSM, and now Illinois too! This is great news, hopefully by at the latest 2030 all of America will have same-sex marriage legal .

I really don't think I could have been born into a better time to be gay.

I was born on February 28, 1995. At that time, gay marriage was illegal everywhere in the world.

In 1998, at age 3, Hawaii legalized "reciprocal beneficiaries." Whatever that means.

In 2004, at age 9, Massachusetts legalized gay marriage, the first state in the nation to do so. Lawmakers in several states rushed to make sure it wouldn't happen in my state to "Protect the institution of marriage for when I grew up." Meanwhile, I was sitting around a table in a 4th grade classroom trying to figure out what the hell gay meant and what it had to do with marriage.

In 2009, at age 14 I realized I liked men. When I started high school, four states had legal gay marriage.

In 2011, at age 16, I got with my boyfriend. It was legal in 5 states.

When I graduated high school in May, 2013, two days before I joined EC, 12 states had legalized gay marriage.

Now in college, 14, soon to be 16, and after New Mexico's court ruling, 17 states will have gay marriage and the number is growing fast.

Wow, this is so unexpected! The focus has been entirely on far away Hawaii this week and to think even the midwest is coming around on this. This is unbeatable news.

As a lifelong Illinois resident, I'm glad that my state is finally going to join the 21st century. It was quite a hard fought battle here in the Land of Lincoln, with disappointment last spring when they didn't vote on it. But in the end, equality prevailed. I can finally say that my state government did a good thing today.

One of my friends posted this on Facebook, and it's a very encouraging sign for marriage equality across the US:

You sir, JUST made my day. Thanks so much

I got the news as I had to leave my boyfriend at O'Hare so he could go back to one of the worst countries to be gay in: Northern Ireland.

Good job, Illinois. I knew you could do it. I really did, no matter how many jokes I made about the whole thing. Today's been one hell of a day for me personally, and quite literally at that.

I'll say this: I knew it was just around the bend, because of all the Barack Obama, HRC and Illinois Unites for Marriage emails I've gotten. And even though I didn't respond to any of them really or did anything because I was busy as fuck, I did read a little bit of them to get a picture of how close we were.

Seriously, this day should have happened in June. But thank you, Illinois House of Representatives for one of the best birthday gifts anybody could ever have

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking all along, hah!
    Congrats, Illinois!
