MSNBC announced today that political commentator Martin Bashir has resigned effective immediately over a controversial statement he made about half-term Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin. On November 15, he closed his show with remarks about Palin comparing the United States national debt to slavery.

That statement sparked controversy, and today, MSNBC released the following press release:

Is it just that last paragraph that's got him in bother or is it the whole tirade?

To be fair she is quite ignant.
But yes - he overstated it for a national news channel lol.

I've never met the guy, nor heard of him before, but he sounds like a classy fellow to me.

In my view, the comments made about her don't go nearly far enough. Her continued existence is a human rights violation.

I always liked Martin, but I do find that final comment of his extremely distasteful and completely against the whole point he was trying to make.

I've noticed a lot of ex-CNN/MSNBC people moving over to Al Jazeera America. I wonder if we'll be seeing Martin on there in the future.

Palin is a dunce. That's putting it lightly but I'm not gonna go into attack mode on her.

I do think he went a bit over the top, and given the mass media, probably did so for the shock value and ratings.

The world class idiot may have not done the trick, but the extra filler probably did.

She is an idiot. Without a doubt, she wiped out John McCain's 2008 bid for the White House.

The thought of her in command of our country was not only idiotic, but frightening. Also, the thought that some people are chanting "Sarahcuda for 2016" is still scary. There are still many knuckle draggers in the U.S.

  11. I think he is fantastic, he was right on the mark, and the thing is I can't get Al Jazeera

I am still under contract with a company that does not have it, they say they do but you can't DVR it, so really no way of finding it or watching

I should be able to switch to a new satellite company when my contract runs out in about 3 months

The following Sunday, Sarah Palin appeared on Fox News to respond to what Bashir said.

    Uh, that made no sense.
