    He was responsible for the end of one of the most vile regimes in human history. At least he had a peaceful end I guess, and 95 is a good age. He did do a lot for Human Rights regardless, SA went from one of the most authoritarian states in Africa (Black people weren't even allowed citizenship during apartheid) to one of the most liberal (SA is one of the few African States to actually have a concept of LGBT rights, compared to the likes of Uganda or Zimbabwe)

    South Africa still has a way to go though, some of my relatives are from there and Johannesburg is one of the most dangerous cities on the planet.

    We lost a very great man today. A human rights activist in the truest sense of the word. He was one of the most influential people in the world, overthrowing the practice of Apartheid. I'm very saddened to see him pass, but he had been suffering for the last few years now, especially recently.

    We will surely miss you Mr. Mandela. :frowning2:

    I knew it would happen soon, but I'm still sad that he's gone. His story is amazing.

    We studied him heavily in class when we covered the book Cry the Beloved Country.

    Its stupid, but I don't feel as though my words can accurately convey my sentiments here. He was a great person.

    An amazing person.

    It makes me a sad/angry, thinking back to how Ronald Reagan supported the Apartheid government, along with Thatcher. They were petty, small, mean people compared to Mandela.

    He's one of the most influential people of the 20th century, pivotal in the human rights movement, and that is a gross understatement. Something everyone here can most definitely appreciate.

    He will definitely be missed.

    An absolute legend. I'm glad he's no longer suffering but I'm still so sad that he's gone. R.I.P Nelson Mandela.

    I remember learning about Mandela when I was a little child, though he was taught to us like Apartheid and racism was a far-off problem on the other side of the world. One of the greats against this global phenomena, he got to see so much in his long life.

    I just heard the news...

    Nelson Mandela, RIP. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The man was a legend in his own right.

    Nelson Mandela was an exemplar for the best that humanity can achieve, his most significant quality was courage, his most significant achievements were justice, mercy and peace with reconciliation in South Africa.

    RIP Nelson Mandela. As President Obama said today, you no longer belong to us, but to the ages.
