LGBT News Anti Gay Bigotry Online: Analyzing homophobic comments can disarm the hate

The thing I love is the people who say they support gays and condone the word fag and using the word gay to describe something stupid. It's extemely hypocritical and offense. You say you support me and condone such words.

 

I'm just waiting for the day where i can tear some bigot apart with my knowledge of logical fallacies.

 

I've tried that with my parents. It didn't work -- their entire worldview is a fallacy.

 

^ I was going to say that. You're not going to change the views of someone who's convinced of these fallacies and *won't let them go* in real life, so why even try online?

 

The fun part is when they explain to you that word meanings change over time and gay/fag now means something else. Especially good when they say all that in a really patronising tone.

 

It really is propaganda and the people who still repeat these lies were likely taught this shit growing up and don't have the critical thinking skills to look at the facts and make their own opinion. Some of them are gay and feel they need to keep up the facade.

Those who use the anal sex is gross so we don't deserve equality really are stupid. A logical person knows that more straight people have anal sex than gay people. I think it's safe to say that most lesbians don't have anal sex and some gay men don't so over half the gay population does not have anal sex. If 35% of straight people have had anal sex that's a lot more people than <50% of gay people. So by their "argument", only lesbians should be allowed to marry and have rights. Stupid idiots.

Given that they're usually men, point out that half their arguments rely on painting having sex with men as disgusting. Cue massive insecurities and misogyny.

It makes them look even worse.

 

Some people, as they age, get wiser and more tolerant, and generally mellow out and learn to accept others. Even those who are really extreme now.

The main reason of which I can think to debate them is to show support for the community; awful as it is to see this sort of vile hate, it really helps those who are still scared, closeted, and/ or unsure when those comments are followed by truth and love.
