    Well, it happened. I'm very much ashamed of my home state. This just seems to be going so far into right field, it's hard to even know what to say. Even in cases of rape and incest, no insurance policy in Michigan will be able to cover abortion, unless special insurance is bought before said pregnancy...

    Story here.

    Maybe the courts can intervene?

    People think it won't happen, but it does! What's even scarier is that I bet they will find a way to get women to vote and will continue to win. (Obviously not many, but you get what I'm saying.)

    It's fucking scary and I don't know what to think.

    Even if the governor doesn't need to sign it, and therefore can't veto it, surely the state Supreme Court can still strike it down?

    Depends on if the court has the agency to review acts of the legislature on its own or if it only has appellate jurisdiction (anyone who knows the Michigan system, feel free to inform). Either way, there's evidently a 5-2 Republican majority among the justices so I'm not too sure about that option.

    This will be challenged in federal court, on the basis of whether it complies with the terms of the Affordable Care Act.

    The ACA states insurance may not charge a woman more than a man for the same insurance.

    Unless they offer rape insurance for men that adds up to the same price legitimately (which I don't know how they would do that), it will be struck down.

    I think the case could work its way to higher courts on any number or merits. I mean, what right does the government have to say what insurance companies can't cover, under any circumstance, when said things are legitimate health concerns?

    You also have crazy companies like Dominoes Pizza, owned by this zany Republican from Michigan, that don't want to cover birth control...and have won the right not to, via a federal judge...where does one try the line on all this nonsense?

    Well, Dominoes is another company on my boycott list.

    But in all seriousness this is just stupid... I mean they even have to purchase a rider before the event.....
