That is great news, but the reason for it was the law was unjust. Therefore, every brit who was convicted should get the same pardon.

I think everyone convicted under the same laws should be pardoned.

What about Oscar Wilde for instance?

Also Turing can't get a medal regardless of being gay since GCHQ is seen as civil service not the military

What about everyone else persecuted under this law?

I agree. If one person gets a pardon for breaking the law because the law was unjust, everyone convicted under that law should be pardoned.

    Yeah.

Turing and Oscar Wilde are my personal historical heroes but it doesn't mean that they are more worthy of a pardon than any other person prosecuted in this way

Fookin' finally. I agree with the others that it shouldn't be because of his contributions to science, but because it was a bad law.

Explanation of how this all works - Deletion of historical gay convictions | Your rights | Information & Advice | Home - I'm assuming there's an equivalent in Scotland & Northern Ireland or that the same rules apply. As far as I'm aware Turing is an exceptional case (because he's dead) but I'd assume that people like Oscar Wilde would follow down the line.

It is scary that as little as 60 years ago Britain was still using chemical castration against people who were homosexual. Turing was a hero and one of our greatest minds, he shouldn't have been treated like that.

How come we never discussed his sexuality in computer school?

I highly doubt there will be many victims of this law still alive

That doesn't matter. If one is posthumously pardoned for violating a law that was later determined to be unjust, all convicted under similar circumstances should be pardoned, regardless if they are living or not.

True, but homosexuality was still illegal in Scotland and Northern Ireland as late as 1982 so there's bound to be a few still alive. Even in England and Wales there could be people in their late 60s/early 70s that were prosecuted and are still alive.
