LGBT News Stop Uganda anti homosexuality bill!

Discussion in 'Current Events, World News, & LGBT News' started by NordicTrickster, Jan 17, 2014.

  1. Stephen Fry tweeted this an hour ago, and I thought I'd share it here:

"Uganda's repulsive Anti-Homosexuality Bill must be stopped. Tell the President to veto http://amn.st/La83XL #LGBT pic.twitter.com/u7jvQgGHo1"

The Uganda president said he won't sign the bill because he's scared of international issues. The UN said a few months ago that they will stop aiding Uganda if the bill is passed. But, there's still a chance he will go ahead and do it. Let's just see how this plays out.

Let's hope the President has a shred of humanity in him to not sign it.

He's obviously under pressure from both sides, as the UN say they will stop aid if the bill is passed but he is also trying to stay on the right side of extremely conservative groups within Uganda. Hopefully the international aid issue will win out, but it depends on the level of corruption in Uganda how much they will even care about aid.

It's unbelievable that in 2014 governments are still going backwards in terms of gay rights. Here's hoping he won't sign it...

That is NEVER going to work,
As a fellow African I am ashamed to see a country on my continent go this way,
But sadly the problem isn't only found in Uganda,
    Most of Africa is homophobic,
I doubt it'll be long before others follow suit,
Though there are some shining beacons of hope.

At least the UN is warning him. It shows that the UN cares for the lgbt population in Uganda. Still, it is unfortunate that many African countries don't accept lgbt people at all /:

Won't Uganda's assembled idiots (Bahati etc) just blame LGBT folk for the aid being stopped and use that as an excuse to go even harder after them?
