    Story HERE.

This makes me very happy...at least a good number of people have decided not to support the homophobic, racist and sexist views espoused by the leader of the family. Lower ratings = less ad revenue. Hopefully, the show will just die a quiet death.

There was a massive hype a couple weeks ago. Everyone was watching the show that supported Phil. Then A&E put him back on the show and the hype slowed down. Everyone lost interest and went back to their normal lives. Those who were already watching the show (before the incident) that supported gay rights, didn't continue watching it for the next season. Thus, demonstrating that statistics aren't always accurate. ESPECIALLY during a hype, I've seen people saying that anti-gay people are now the majority just because of the Phil incident. Nope, it's just the hype screwing with statistics.

The statistic shows the drop in people watching the season premier from last year, to the season premier from this year, as opposed to episodes in a row...so it was a drop over a longer time frame. But it will take a season's worth of numbers to get better stats; as you say, this is only one number, but still, one I'm happy to see!

Honestly I say this with all love, and in no way I think what he did was right but if you watch a show about rednecks expect them to say redneck things. Its the reason I avoid the show. Plus it's not even funny...

I never understood why this show had ratings in the first place.

I am surprised. I thought the opposite would happen. I never imagined the show having a large gay demographic tuning in; however, maybe enough people have friends or family members who are gay.

As for me, I've never watched it and have no interest in reality shows. If I need reality, I am living in it...I don't need TV to experience reality.

I think the problem with most so called "reality" shows, whether they are truly "real" or not, is that they only show a limited reality. It's like if life was a movie on a big screen, and the show's producers are showing you a little square of something happening on that screen, in order to increase ratings. This can give ignorant people a skewed perspective on what's real or not.

The interesting thing I saw was even the gay people and people who support gay rights support Phil Robertson on face book. Like I get freedom of speech and have huge respect for it but I could not understand the fascination with that show. We need to protects rights to speak freely and others right to speak freely also but we also have a right to respectfully disagree with that opinion. I don't think the people who supported Phil cared or even listened to what he said and most of just went cried freedom of speech without hearing his comments.

I am actually very surprised. Did people think an old religious hillbilly would have any other opinion?

Some say they lost ~40-50% of their original audiance, but they wong back a certain percentage because hardcore "christians" started to watch the show.

I don't care what they said on the show,I am jsut happy less people watch a show made for people with no significant ammount of inteligence. That show IS FOR FUCKING MORONS.You do not learn anything new by watching it.

If it was a publicity stunt by AgE,they pretty mutch failed badly.

I think a lot of people might have tuned out due to his other remarks as well, such as about how blacks were perfectly happy in the Jim Crow south, being unable to vote, living in segregation, and treated as second class citizens. I think that rankled a lot of people, white, black and otherwise.

Then, there was his marriage advice...

Don't forget the context in which he spoke.

He personally never saw 'blacks' being miss-treated, so was he lying? He was alongside them, and while it's no secret there is oppression, he was commenting for HIMself. The prudent should look into such matters.

His marriage advice was talking about how young people get mixed up into sex / adultery / fornication, and he made a crude statement about how a person should marry young to AVOID these things. To find someone to cleave to, to love, to love 'intimately', and to respect as fast as possible to avoid the 'bar scene' and other scenarios I do not need to state.

Could he have worded it better? Yes, but how many times have YOU (The reader) said something that was crude or misunderstood? Ever say outloud or to yourself "I can't think of the right word", "Something like that", "Maybe I could have worded that better".

Hate the show, fine, hate his conduct, fine, but let's try to at-least keep things above the belt.
So much hate from a community persecuted and battered from it! You think we'd know better than to make ourselves into hypocrites.
