Very sad news out of New York today.
    More here.

This should be a reminder for everybody to make sure that they have working smoke detectors in their residences. They really can save lives.

Incredibly sad, but what an awesome kid.
Saw this on the firefighter forums. Tough to read.

Thoughts and prayers to the family, and yes - working smoke detectors, PLEASE!

Definitely. And, if you can't afford to buy one at the hardware, check with your fire department. They may have a program to help you out. Keep in mind they should be replaced every 10 years, and if they don't have a 10 year lithium battery, the batteries should be changed when the time changes (twice a year)

Everyone at EC, please go check your fire alarm now. Might as well be a good time to check before you forget. Such a sad story but at least he was heroic and saved 6 other people including a 4 & 6 year old. Poor kid though. I know his mom's going to be grieving thinking that the grandfather should've just died and not him
