I love a lot of things about my home state, but hate the politics.

Here's the bill: 2014 Session - Bill History

Does that mean atheists can kick out any Christians? Can Muslims kick out Jews? Can Jews kick out bacon eaters? Or does this law only favor Christians?

Of course it only favours Christians.

Fancy rejecting service to a Muslim. You'd be branded racist. It's okay to refuse LGBT people services though.

"My religion does not approve interacial marriage, I canot bake a cacke for them because it's against my religion."

The law is vague and not precise.

    What idiots.

Muslims are refused services all the time, so are a lot of other people who aren't white, but it's not reported nearly as much. Journalists love taking up the cases of white gays all the time while ignoring the many others in worse or similar situations.

These laws are even more scary considering how privatised almost everything in America is (not sure if South Dakota's better or worse than average). Can healthcare be denied on the same grounds? Can insurance companies and banks refuse insurance and loans, putting LGBT people and others on the streets? Can doctors refuse life-saving surgery?

That bill is bullshit. Proponents are going to cry to the protesters "freedom of religion!" but they don't realize that freedom extends to the people trying to do business with you too. Just because somebody else's practices violate your beliefs doesn't mean you get to jerk them around.

The problem with the freedom of religion argument, is that it still does not give them the right to discriminate to quell their bigotry. All of them fail to see that point, though. Also, "Congress may not recognize/favor any official establishment of religion".

That's exactly what I was trying to say. The first amendment stipulation helps those in gay marriages in this situation, stopping them from being persecuted for their choices.

I just hate how backwards my home state is. The sad thing is that it will probably pass by a large margin. I'd hope our courts would turn it down though.

Hmmm, the broad language of this bill could easily be used to refuse wedding services due to race or creed, not just sexual orientation. Which means it would violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Federal Law>State Law. How is it possible these people become legislators without having heard of the Supremacy Clause?

It's religious arguments and problems like this that frustrate me. Now wouln't it be nice if we could all just "live and let live" ya know? Then again, people are just naturally selfish, close minded and lack empathy for others. I'm not saying everyone does though, it's just human nature.

"Religious freedom" that the Christian fundies in this country are always talking about has little if anything to do with actual religious freedom, and more to do with having a license to bully gay people. They really seem to be squirming as they come to the realization that their views are becoming less and less mainstream.

The stupid.... there is just so much of it in this bill.
What people don't understand about freedom of religion is that it goes both ways. The government keeps its hands out of religion and religion keeps its hands out of the government.
