As a Mizzou fan, all I have to say is I love Michael Sam to death. He is a wonderful guy on and off the football field. M-I-Z-Z-O-U!

No he's the reigning SEC defensive player of the year from Missouri. He's supposed to be a third-round draft pick, although I have a sad feeling that he'll slide down in the draft because of this.

Actually, he's projected to go somewhere in the first round.

I was thinking this same thing, and that's completely independent from the fact that I'm a fan. Progressive city, liberal Jewish owner, and a coach who keeps the media away and doesn't give a fuck who you are as long as you can play.

I have major respect for this guy and I hope he makes it. The first active, openly gay player in one of the four major sports in North America is going to have a hugely positive impact.

With that said, it's really disheartening to read the comments in that Sports Illustrated article. I really, really hope there's a team out there willing to break down this barrier and give this kid a chance. If other players have a problem with it, take away their spots instead.

I hope that this will not effect his draft pick. Maybe if we are lucky there is a team out there that is ready to let gay players play. It's about time that we have some gay NFL players on the field.

I never noticed this until after the season, but he actually wore rainbow bracelets for a good part of the season.

Wow! That's so courageous to do it at the *beginning* of his career. I mean i highly doubt this will happen to such a talented player, but it could cost him millions. All respect to jason collins and others, this is exactly what's been waited for. I really expected the first would be some aaron rodgers type who's a vet and irreplaceable and financially secure. Instead it's a rookie who waited for the offseason and teams will know exactly what they're getting into. Their goes any selfishness accusations.

I'm really hoping it goes well and paves the way for others to come out rather than suffer in the closet their whole high school, college and pro career.

At the same time, if he did go undrafted and suffered the fate of kerry rhodes, it would likely set gay athletes back several years and be a stain the nfl would never live down. Be interesting to see what happens.
