    I actually think this suit has a chance to go somewhere, even if they don't win in the state, they could win in federal or the supreme court. Most of this goes along with one spouse being diagnosed with cancer, and instead of being put on their partner's health insurance plan if they were straight, the state recognized them only as housemates, and they had to spend their entire life savings just to keep them alive. That could be considered a violation of the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. They definitely need to make that couple the main plaintiffs in the case.
