When I was a kid my parents were watching a tv interview someone was doing with Rush Limbaugh. Someone in the audience asked him about gay marriage. I think this was after marriage # 2 for him, back in the late 90's? He looked embarrased and confused, and shrugged, and I think he replied, "Love is love." (It's been many years) My ultra conservative Mother shook her head from side to side, and said, "I've lost all respect for that man."

 

When I was a young republican I listened to Rush. Now as a libertarian I listen for giggles.

It makes me sad to know my mother listens to this guy all the time as well as obsessively watching Fox News. She likes to say she's fine with gays but gets her panties in a bunch when gay marriage and rights are brought up.

Even my dad, who identifies as conservative, hates both of them and supports gay marriage. I'm afraid of telling my mother. Not like she can do anything about it as I live on my own, but I'm afraid she might "disown" me.

Our parents are very much alike, except my mother never said she was fine with gays, and my Dad doesn't exactly support gay marriage. He and her used to listen to him all the time in the car when I was growing up. I had to endure many hours of the EIB network until I got an mp3 player. I particulary hated the feminazi references, because as a young girl growing up my hero's were women who sacrificed for the advancement of womens rights.

To be fair, when I listened to the recording, I recalled that he used to say on his show that he would "illustrate absurdity by being absurd." Perhaps he was making a point about the pollution/global warming connection. 10% bigger 50 years ago? Really? Someone cares enough to keep track of this stuff?

To hear my parents and grandparents talk, everything was bigger/longer/better in the old days. :dry:
