I just found out that the article was a satire and wasn't true. Sorry about that.

You're supposed to pretend that you were posting it to see how many people you could get to fall for it.

I actually initially thought it was true and missed the satire reference at the bottom. I did scroll up though and find some really hyperbolic titles of related articles where I thought "man only The Onion could come up with stuff like.... oh wait."

The New Yorker has a tendency to be a bit cheeky. I consider it the hippy liberal brother of The Economist, one of my favorite magazines.

You know the far right are stupid when you have to be told that this is satire. I am a conservative and I approve this message.

Andy Borowitz has long been a master of political and social satire. You can subscribe to his New Yorker articles for free, and get them via email. He writes anywhere from 3-7 times a week.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there were Tea Party members who thought like this.

Yeah, the 'satire' part is them admitting they were wrong.

I guess they haven't paid attention to Anderson Cooper, Raven Samon, Ellen Degeneres, Elton John, Tim Gill, Jann Wenner, Chris Hughes, David Geffen, and Calvin Klein. Yeah there's no LGBT people that contribute to the American Economy.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are folks who actually do think like this, but dumb enough to actually say it in public, for a reporter? Strains the bounds of credulity. Not much, mind, but a tad.

On the bright side, it turns out to be satire. It's kind of sad that we all believe people could be sincerely saying stuff like this though...
