A poll shows the French to be the least likely to maintain fidelity/monogamy among various European countries polled. Other countries get honorable mentions, too. I think they may divorce less than Americans, but nevertheless cheat more.

I guess all it takes is for one to see some of the foreign films they export.

I think Italy and France have produced most of the best films ever made. If it wasn't for directors like Fellini, Antonioni, De Sica, Truffaut, Goddard and Malle, I'd hardly watch films.

And I think Americans cheat just as much, they're just not as open about it, and more prone to deceit/self deceit. And are more puritanical and guilt ridden,

"We're Catholic; we don't believe in divorce."

I think they're just more open about their sex lives, and have no shame to admitting that they sleep around.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. Is François Hollande included in those statistics ?

Fun fact: when syphilis first appeared it was called the "French disease."

There's a reason Paris is called the city of love. Zut alors.

Don't the French consider it totally normal and expected for any man of rank to have a mistress? Don't think it applies to women, though.

Je ne suis pas étonné.

I think the French have realatively healthy attitudes to sex compared to the Anglosphere, for all that they may cheat. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: There are a lot of things wrong with it and a lot of double standards, but it's a little better.

The idea that we are naturally monogamous creatures is being challenged. Some .... some aren't. Society just tells us how guilty we should feel about it.
