Can't wait until the day that map turns 100% dark blue.

It's still possible the ruling will be appealed or delayed. The governor and attorney general are both Democrats but this is an extremely socially conservative state. But I'm hoping they won't appeal.

I don't know why you said foreign marriages. That would be implying that only marriages from outside the country are recognized. But hey Kentucky look at you taking the step in the right direction.

The gray means both out of state and out of country marriages are recognized.

This is what I meant. ^^^

I like to say foreign because at times like these, I feel like the USA should be called the Divided States. :/

    Well, shit.
Ky. to appeal order on out-of-state gay marriages

However, I think from a legal standpoint, this may actually do more to hasten marriage equality than the lawsuits in individual states, since this is now a federal question about equal protection under the laws.

So does this go onto the US circuit court level now?

I'm starting to lose track of how many states have appeals at the circuit level...I really hope that nothing goes wrong, and the case gets referred to the Supreme Court, and it issues a crappy decision...I worry about that.

Kentucky: "Well let's use out of state lawyers to defend what our elected officials declined to because that worked out well with Prop 8 in California."

You know, I wonder if that's what the governor is going for. It makes him look like he's fighting the ruling even though he's using a formula that he knows won't win. Politically it makes him look good as a Democratic governor in a red state. The fact that he's putting politics before equality is awful, but that's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

Maybe, SCL. But I feel like this being a waste of time should be bipartisan. Conservatives because why waste time restricting personal liberty? Aren't they supposed to hate that? Liberals because equality in American society is a huge part of our platform.

The governor's a politician. As such, he looks only to the next election. If he fights the ruling, he wins points with the Kentucky bigots. But when he loses, the rest of Kentucky won't hold it against him.

    Sad, but that's politics

This actually makes sense. I remember that Governor Christie dropped all opposition against the gay marriage ruling in New Jersey RIGHT before elections. What do you know, Christie gets governor again.
