It's a very solid blue state, though mostly in the most populous counties: Baltimore, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, Charles. But this is where most everyone lives. If you go out west towards the panhandle section, it gets very red, almost like West Virginia. And if you go out to the eastern shore, similar thing.

Check out this map of the 2012 results.

But the Democrats have very comfortable majorities, so I'm really optimistic this will pass. I really like how many things have happened under Gov. O'Malley: gay marriage, repeal of the death penalty, easing up on marijuana penalties, higher taxes on the rich, stricter gun laws, improvements to mass transportation. (New subway in Balt. City; Purple line to interface with DC metro, eventually). He's signed a lot of legislation I very much favor, and hopefully this will be added to that list.

Well, it passed the Senate, 32-15. Now, onto the house, where it's passed in previous versions, so it looks like only a matter of time until it's official.
