Proving that once again, NC is becoming more and more backwards...I used to think it might have been one of the more progressive southern states, but less and less these past years.

Instead of addressing the bullying problem, they banned the bag. So much for flexible gender roles, as well...

    Story, here.

Nothing like telling a bullied kid he brought it on himself...

Their statement would have made more sense if it said "we could deal with the bullies, but we can't be arsed."

"He can't bring it to school because they may get bullied because if it"

Hey, how about instead if banning it from the school, how about you tell the little prick bullies not to be complete assholes?

Looking further, another boy, age 11, (also in NC) was bullied over liking MLP, and attempted to hang himself.

    Story, here.

These cases are very sad, and point to how far we have to go in terms of the harmful effects of gender roles on kids growing up, and bulling in general.

On a positive note, it's good to see his family now raising money to raise awareness about this issue, and taking action.

I hate that things happen, but It was really sweet how the brony community helped raise so much money for his treatment and gave so much support.

I hate what the school system does to kids. Individuality is weird and wrong, and anyone who is the slightest bit different has such a hard time (it hasnt changed either). And then they blame the victims.

I literally just got done reading this article and was about to post it on here when I saw this xD

Yeah poor kid. That sucks...especially since the school is contributing to the bullying problem. Instead of stepping in and stopping the bullies they just became bullies themselves, or at least enablers.

    Such a shame -.-'

    ---------- Post added 18th Mar 2014 at 12:02 PM ----------

Wow that one is ever worse -.-'

What's wrong with people anymore? People should just learn to get over their differences and stop being terrible to one another. It's sad to think about, especially since all this little kid did to incite this behavior towards himself was like a t.v. show about ponies. >.>

Most of the bullies have never watched MLP.

Isn't this how the Brony got started, a load of 4channers were going to watch it for a joke and ended up liking it?

I saw an episode for kicks and loved it, the characters are so well developed and likeable. Ah Rainbow Dash ........

Whatever happened to some of those bullies... NO EXCUSE. I have no respect for such losers. There are even kids that kill themselves because they were bullied for having ginger hair. There truly is no limit to the ignorance of some people. In a way the school has given the bullies what they want. If they're too scared/lazy/stupid to confront the bullies, then the bullies will feel more powerful. They've probably made the situation worse.

What the school has done? It's akin to putting a band aid on a certain type of injury to the neck which causes death within 12 seconds. Good grief.

I wish I was that enlightened when I was 9!

My country has a lot of flaws, but not to this extend. We used to look up to the U.S. We were so naive. 20 years later, and I am not sure if there is a single person who thinks that there is something to be envious of...

Well what I find sad is that, because of the school system not condoning this, this type of behavior will continue. Stories like these make me want to move to the remotest part of Siberia and remain there.

This all wouldn't have happened if the damn school system would have JUST said "leave this kid alone". END! That's it! Ba-da bing, ba-da boom.

I have seen arguments on both sides, and boy is it all a shitstorm.

People are hating each other for conforming to gender roles, then they hate when people don't, and bronies really don't deserve this hate.
