I think they actually did let this little girl back into her school after a bunch of people rallied and gave the school board beef for it. I can't remember.

It still irks me that they'd do this in the first place >.>

I understand dress codes in an Academy all too well but that was just morally reprehensible... takes courage at that age to shave all of your hair off especially amongst young children as peers.

While I agree that the board overreacted in regards to the girl, from their point of view, SOMEHOW, a little girl shaving off her hair could be viewed as her mocking her friend. Why someone choosing to be mean would do it in such a personally harming manner is beyond me, but I could see it being misconstrued to her being a bully. And even as a child, they couldn't take her or her parents word for it, because what true and honest bully, particularly one who would go to such drastic measures, would honestly say they had done it in kindness. Kids can be cruel, and are notorious liars.
Not trying to justify what they did, but I do believe that is their point of view on this. After all, we wouldn't want our school boards to take a chance on someone wearing rainbows and SAYING they support us, when in fact they are using it as a subtle way of demeaning us. In the same way, they can't run the risk of someone mistreating someone already going through a hard time. I'm just glad that the reprimand was revoked.
Now, if only they would treat our community in such a sensitive manner....

This is sick. If anything, she should have been praised for doing that.
The way people handle things in the American school system truely sucks. :frowning2:

What she did doesn't automatically make her masculine. She did it to show support a friend, not for aesthetic reasons.
I do agree that girls who don't look very girly are given a lot of crap in school, though. :frowning2:

I don't see why that would be against the dress code to begin with.

And these types of idiots are the ones who are given the task of helping to shape and mold us. Sad. So very sad.

I see our issue being that people don't have have empathy!
If there was a rule against this, then yes, the kid broke it, plain and simple. I remember hearing about similar things when I was in school - so it's been around a little bit!
Anyways, what really pisses me off is that they can't say "hey, it's okay. You're supporting your friend!"
    Arghh.....just arghhh!
