I know there is a thread below, but I can't seem to merge it with my original post.

Russia: Anti-gay anger over Eurovision winner | Channel24

Even though I'm guessing quite a lot of people voted for the wrong reasons, to intentionally piss off Russia, I loved the controversy and that their evil manner in how they view LGBT people is out in the spotlight once more. Those boos when the Russian twins sang or received high points said it all.

News like this really divide people into two groups. Supporters and haters. And a lot of times these haters say the filth and contamination of the world must be dealt with because [Insert omnipotent supernatural being in control of the universe here] said so. I'm really struggling not to hate religion in moments like that.

I'm not sure how much of Russia's hatred is based on religion, and how much is based on simply a culture of being awful. I haven't heard much religious-based justification coming from them, anyway. (Though of course most of their politicians are in the pocket of the rather unpleasant brand of religion they have there, so maybe. And of course it would've almost certainly started off as religious hatred before becoming secularised to make it appear like religion wasn't mixing with politics, so..)

Urgh. Our media love to portray Russia as this all-evil country. I don't doubt that it's difficult to be gay in Russia, but the outrage couldn't have been unanimous when Russia gave the winner 5 points now?! Conchita wouldn't have won without the support of Eastern Europe.

80% of the Russian population is homophobic.

The people in Russia who voted Conchita can be divided into a small group of LGBT people and also a larger group unhappy with the Russian government did the exact thing they knew the Russian government would NOT condone, that is vote for Conchita to spite them. You'll inevitably get a few who genuinely liked the song, did not judge and voted for her, but those are very, very few.

If Russia could have done one thing to ensure she won, it would be condemning her and demanding she be axed or have her performances edited. Those boos when the Russians got high points from other countries said it all.

Obviously those didn't listen to their own song. The song Shine by Russia was "to show the world some love". :roflmao:

I really wish that Russian politics could stop "bossing around" Europe.

"Fifty years ago the Soviet army occupied Austria. We made a mistake in freeing Austria. We should have stayed," added the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, known for his outrageous statements. Really?? I think they should cope with their own country first... it's a total mess.

I actually liked russian song in Eurovision and, I think it has nothing to do with Russia being so intolerant to gender neutrality here. Twins have beautiful voices and it was pretty good. Politics are another story...

When 75% of Russia are against even basic rights to LGBT people and the remaining 25% can't say a thing without loosing their job then it is an evil country.

I suggest you watch hunted to see what its like. Saying its "difficult" to be gay is an understatement, its hell on Earth.

Today I was confronted by a number of people from my closest acquaintances and some of them said stuff like "how disgusting, isn't it?" to which I just replied "Yeah, and look at those meme pictures being made" but some others were saying "those hating this person are the reason our society is not advancing"
So thank you Conchita, you helped me learn who's to be trusted and who's to be left behind.

I know. Pretending to be bi/gay, that's "allowed"* according to Russia. But a man who is a drag queen is very wrong.. That's remarkable.

    * I know they caused a lot of controversy too, just to make that clear.

Russia said one time, they will arrest anyone who will be holding hands or kissing with same sex in public... it doesn't matter that they are faking it here on stage, it's just ironic.

I love that they make all the fuss
And then buy the single so much that it is at the top of the chart
