She has always amazed me, by the depth of her words both in writing and in addresses she has given, such as at least one Presidential inauguration.

Her life was fraught with struggles but she kept on going against all odds. RIP Maya Angelou.

I feel bad because in high school, I sorta got her book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," banned by my English teacher. It was assigned reading and I finished it quickly and, in passing, commented on the parts where she mentioned how she was molested by Mr. Freeman. Well, my teacher was a super Catholic prude who didn't even read the book beforehand and thought the book was too provocative so she exempted everyone from reading it.

Anyways, Maya Angelou did go through a lot in her life and used her literary gifts to share her stories for the benefit of others.

A great woman... I remember reading her material throughout school. Was always a great read. She stood for so much, she will be missed.

It is very sad, but I think her legacy is all the people she touched through her words, written and spoken. Her voice was electrifying.

Right. She put it out there, and beautifully. I knew the name, but learned of her from the inaugural address. Something told me she had been through a lot, even being dressed well and on the steps of the Capitol.

My thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends. We lost a wonderful person today.

I hope it's not long before we have a holiday in her remembrance.
