I hardly doubt that this is the first thread started on this topic. For those who don't know prop 8 is a California proposition that would overturn the State Supreme Court and ban gay marriage.

While surfing the web I came across this video for prop 8

    http://www.afa.net/prop8video/index.html

For those who don't want to spend the time watching it or simply can't stomach it. It is a short documentary featuring a bunch of people from religious groups claiming to be unbiased family therapists and the like. So these pseudosciences blab on and on about how gay marriage will destroy your family and ultimately lead to the spread of the gay to your children. And oddly enough they manage to very very loosely claim that allowing gays to marry will lead to the destruction of religious rights. To be honest I had some trouble following them on that one I guess they say there going to take away there rights to take rights away from gays and lesbians. But I do have to commend the director of the video for the musical score during the credits.

if gay marriage is banned, it would be a giant step backwards for gay rights in California... many of those points were not at all valid. They painted a lot of their opinion as solid fact, not even considering arguments for gay marriage :frowning2:

They can't take away the right to marry! I almost hope that they do pass
the proposition, so that we can have massive protests and overrule the proposition
as unconstitutional, as it is. Maybe that would present an opportunity to
educate people about homosexuality, and how allowing gay Marriage
won't "turn people gay", because people are born gay (or bi...or straight
for that matter) and we can't discriminate against people for things they
can't control. And the church's arguments are complete bogus, of course.
They don't understand homosexuality, and of course, the only way for them
to deal with something that they don't understand (and hence are afraid of)
is to condemn it (as they did 50 years ago with interracial marriage).
The whole "sanctity of marriage" argument loses credibility when you consider
how much more the bible says against divorce (which last time I checked
was legal) than it does against being gay. In the end though,
religion has ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS in how a government deals with its
citizens (and unlawfully takes away their rights).

Oh, I know it. If that racy heterosexual couple down the street from me ever gets married, it would just tear my life apart. I would never be able to marry knowing that they shared my rights and were treated as equals, it would just be too much.

After seeing like 3 minutes of the video so far-I can already point
out flaws. First of all "the people" aren't always right. Second of
all, they're trying to single out people who aren't opposed to
gay marriage by the whole "people" thing. Third of all, they
don't understand a thing about homosexuality and they think
that all of America will suddely turn gay if they don't "protect
Americas morals", because obviously, all of Spain, all of the
Netherlands, and all of Canada has already turned gay and
we can't accept that! And another thing. Would it be ok to
discriminate against Black people because they're not "the
people"? That's basically their argument, gay people are a
minority so they don't deserve the same rights or respect
as everybody else. Wow-I think I need to become a gay activist.

"Every society through civilization has defined marriage as a union between a man and a women."
    - this guy needs history lessons... Before the advent of canon law, many societies allowed one man and MANY women to get married.

"There is a moral order that if you kick against it, it's like kicking against the wall. There are certain ways human beings are made..."
-What MORAL ORDER?! The moral order that once told people that women were made inferior to men and that they should remain oppressed?

"This is a major assault to the underpinnings of the western civilization."
-(oh this man amuses me). So is the obliteration of slavery and the cease of discrimination towards african americans.

"We have a lot of social science evidence which show that children fare better when raised by a mother and a father.."
    - HAHAHAH... apparently empirical evidence disagrees... look at our society!! And excuse me? I've seen many well-brought up children from single parent families.

"Religious groups are finding that their rights to exercise their religion restricted."
    - Well obviously.. if you perceive the mass murder of jews, the relegation of african americans and women and the overt discrimination towards other religions as your RIGHTS!
