Whoever didn't think this horrendous ruling would open the floodgates is an idiot. "Religious freedom" (codeword for Christian supremacy) is such a joke.

The religious folk who are pushing for this are on the wrong side of History, and deep down they may know this. You can't stop a tidal wave by holding up a placard. Nevertheless, they will try...

Remind me again why certain Christians feel they are entitled to privileges unavailable to your average person?

I'm atheist, where's my freedom to ignore laws I don't like the look of?

EDIT: If they get their way on this they can never, ever claim they're being persecuted or indeed that we're looking for special rights ever again. They're the only ones looking for special rights.

I was worried this word start to happen, and it's happening. Sadly, I think this is only the beginning.

It also doesn't seem to bode well for gay marriage, when that reaches the court; it could lead to exemptions from certain employers in extending befits to married gay couples on 'religious grounds', or worse.

I'm kinda scared. Kennedy has been of no real use in these recent cases.

I'm not seeing how anyone could look at Hobby Lobby as being great for freedom. Unless people genuinely believe having the right to impose your religion on others is a great thing.

People other than the American right of course.

This has always kind of existed, for a while, only in reverse. At-will employment allows for a company to fire someone, for any reason, and not have to state why. The employee is either told this near the beginning, or they were expected to read it, in all the paperwork filled through.

    Ugh.

Will hiring an LGBT person really harm the company? How will you even know they're LGBT if they're not out?

It's sad that other people still feel they have the right to justify what is or isn't permissible i am religious and lesbian and am ashamed of people of faith using religion and the law as a grounds for oppression, exclusion and discrimination with legal backing... Didn't agree with their first ruling in this case and damn will won't agree with any other negative ones

  14. Wow. I can't even... You call yourself a Christian, or a reflection of Christ's love, yet you want to be allowed to discriminate against another person? That's so hypocritical... I'm tired of all of this, like seriously, religious freedom isn't being threatened in the US at all, they just want to control and dictate over everyone else. I'm a Christian myself, but those type of Christians have brought me a lot of pain... My parents, the church I am forced to go to like every Sunday, and a lot of people in my state are that type of "Christians" and I just... I don't even know what to say... Me and the rest of the LGBTQ community are human beings and the only "sin" we ever committed was love, so to want to continue discriminating on us is just really hurtful.

They're gonna try, but they're not going to succeed. People are still homophobic in public, but I think things have changed enough that they don't stand for institutionalized prejudice anymore for the most part. Not to mention the prevention of discrimination for sexual orientation is already part of the equal-opportunity employment act.

This sucks for me at the moment as I am currently trapped in a Christian environment.

Absolutely! Love that last sentnce too.

I think that religious freedom is a great thing, but this is not the type of situation that it should be applied to. If Hobby Lobby is concerned about hiring sinners then they should hire the sinless....which is no one. Huh, I'm sure at one point they have hired cheaters, alcoholics, and thieves, but anyone LGBT, no way.
