Well, it's finally happened: A state has passed a law making it legal to turn away gays from places of business, and it's now in effect. A sad day...

    More here.

It's Mississippi. Did anyone want to be in Mississippi at all in the first place? I wouldn't exactly call it a loss.

'Oh damn, we can't go to the uneducated backwoods of the Deep South.'

    ..Said nobody, ever.

    NO.

I knew Mississippi was pretty anti-LGBT, but still.

    NO!

    NO!

I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS.

MISSISSIPPI, THIS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL! THIS IS... THIS IS...

    - STARTS THROWING RAINBOWS INTO MISSISSIPPI RIVER -

In all seriousness, damn it. I'm extremely disappointed, even more than usual because...

    Actually, no, I'm just disappointed.

    I think we'll see a court challenge.

Also, how is a religious person supposed to know if a person is gay. I mean, have they suddenly developed amazingly accurate 'gaydar'?

And even though it is Mississippi, the people there still need equal protections, especially people who just happened to be born there, and may have a fondness for their home state in other ways, and not have to feel like they need to move, just to be treated with decency. Granted, this doesn't make me eager to mover there, or plan a vacation, but I can't see where this would be constitutional.

They can't, and that's the ugliness of the entire damn thing.

I have a feeling that a lot of people will be discriminated simply because they act flamboyant or some other shit stereotype.

I have no words for this anymore.

This is one of the days when I'm more happy than usual about living in Western Europe, not America.

Although I feel the urge to get over there and see to that these fucking bigot cunts are getting what they deserve.

And still the American Taliban will bitch that they're being persecuted when they get called out. Tax exempt status, freedom to discriminate, protections from certain laws and none of them will likely get their collars felt for what they've done in other countries (Scott Lively et al).

They don't realise just how good they've got it.

Will those Bible thumpers ever learn that they are on the wrong side of history. Of course, no one should be surprised. We are talking about a state that would still have whites-only signs around if the state government had their way.

Thing is that Bible says to love and remain nonjudgmental towards everyone.

Is this law truly loving and nonjudgmental?

If you follow the Bible, fine. Feel free to keep thinking that homosexuality is wrong, but acting on these feelings is going against the Bible.

Although, apparently, there are A LOT of contradictions in the Bible, so who knows?

    Think of the children.

Oh dear ... I'm glad I don't live in Mississippi.

That quote from the American Family Association rep made me roll my eyes. Businesses with "We don't discriminate" stickers are bullying Christians? Boo-fucking-hoo.
