    What I don't get is how this has to be done more than once. How is it that someone could think a ban from one state is constitutional, when all the others have been declared unconstitutional? Why people bother appealing is beyond me.

    In the conservatives' alternate reality, if the voters approve a law, that exempts it from any Constitutional scrutiny. According to conservative logic, if the voters pass a law that bans the practice of a specific religion, it must be allowed to stand because the people voted, even though it's in direct violation of the First Amendment.

    As for the gay marriage issue, the Fourteenth Amendment states,

    "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    Now the State of Florida has made a law that abridges the privileges of the citizens and denies to an entire group of people the equal protection of the law. What the voters think doesn't matter, thanks to the Supremacy Clause which states,

    "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding."

    Nonetheless, I'm still super happy. My homophobic father lives in Florida. I wish I could see the look on his face... (!)

    There's been a stay on the ruling (saw that from several miles away north from the Keys).

    As much as I love my state, this annoys the heck out of me.
