Andrej Pejic Comes Out as Trans Woman

Some of the language in the article grates, but whatever. Andreja (like, my favorite model ever) Pejic has transitioned, and although she's kept it secret for a bit, she wants to be open with the public. To be honest, I expected there was something actually gender related to her being an "androgynous" model. Her presentations have been so incredibly feminine that it was hard for me to say "I think this person is a dude 100%, good on him for rocking the girl-mode clothes."

Now I simply get to say "good on her for rocking her clothes." I'm happy for her.

Interesting article, thanks for posting. I am still relatively new to this world, but am learning that there can be a difference between the gender of the physical body one was born with, and the gender one identifies with or feels closest to. It's been quite moving to read, from time to time, the fervent wishes of some folks here, to transition. I do not have that need myself, but I like the feeling of my heart being more open, since coming to feel that all of us - lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders - are united in the sense that we present a kind of 'alternative sexuality', we are not 'the norm'. I used to worry about this, but now I like it. I don't want to be 'normal'. For me, that would feel rather boring. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I think that Andrej is very beautiful, regardless of whether or not what the original gender was. Who cares about the norm? Normal is boring.

I'm not very surprised, but am very happy for her.

That's great  I've known about her for a fair while, always suspected.

Hopefully she is more comfortable now.

The only thing is, I wonder whether the modelling might dry up a bit now.

Her being androgynous/a bio male wearing women's clothes was really her "unique selling point" so to speak. Now she is a woman it might be harder to be noticed amongst all the other female models. Mind you there is still public "interest" or fascination with transpeople (whether thats right or wrong is another matter though), as seen with stars like Laverne Cox.

Wow, she looks just as hot as a man as she looks as a woman.

I had wondered about that too, and I appreciate your astute mention of it.

For the record, I still think she's holy shit beautiful, so I'm not altogether sure that this will be a problem for her career. I think that she also presented herself, at least in the past, in a way that was distinctive, even beyond her androgyny.

I was actually discussing this with a friend of mine last night, and we both thought she read as female, and there was nothing really "androgynous" about her. We both thought, "this is girl mode, and totally going for it." And in fact, we thought there was something clever about the presentation, because it wasn't just girl mode, but it's like she nailed the feminine look so well that she actually kind of "brought it back" to this sort of butch position. (I'm thinking of her some what military uniform style pictures in which she looks more rugged, if you will.)

I guess what I'm saying is, I think she brings something to the table other than being trans. I think she's just beautiful in her own right.

But, I shouldn't remark on her beauty too much. I should be caring that she's transitioned and much happier.

I'm sure she will keep getting work, shes certainly got a more unique look than many female models (For instance I've always thought Cara Delevingne is incredibly plain to look at, not unattractive at all but not particularly interesting or unique).

I think she might lose a certain sector of her work, those using the gender aspect as much as the look. Perhaps Stav Strashko will get an increase of work of the back of this/begin to dominate this market a bit?

She has a career as a model. I would have thought if there is one time you should be fine commenting on someone's physical appearance, this would be it!

My girlfriend called it; she had been referring to her with feminine pronouns and as Andreja for a long time now.

Anyway, I'm happy for her, and for this continued increase in trans representation in the media. =)

I'm proud of her, but feel a little funny, since she's the second bio male I've learned decided to transition, within a week (the first being a popular twink porn star). But yeah, I suspected ever since hearing her bring up transitioning in a prior interview, and preferring to be referred to with female pronouns.

    Still jealous!
